Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology among active universities in Africa Mapping Activity

On September this year,Google Student Ambassadors from 65 universities in 11 African countries organised map maker training sessions to over 2000 students in their respective universities. The students then engaged in weeklong mapping focused on campus departments, classes, lecture theatres, faculties, libraries, hostels, cafeterias and eateries, administrative buildings and much more.

Google Map Maker allows you to add and update geographic information for millions of users to see in Google Maps and Google Earth. By sharing information about the places you know, like businesses in your town or places in your school campus, you can ensure that the map accurately reflects the world around you.

Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology as among African Universities under Google Student Ambassador Program held map up training on September 3rd,2012 followed by map up exercise on September 13th,2012.The events was conducted by Ashery Mbilinyi who is the Google Student Ambassador for DIT and his Google Team (DIT Google Geeks).

According to report recently given by Google Sub Saharan Africa University Programs Team,DIT has emerge among top 9 universities in Africa with large number of mapping activities.Both top 9 universities has more than 500 edits.

The graphs below show performance per country and also the universities that achieved over 500 mapping edits.
